Vandra

Details

Built with NZ Kauri by Alec Lacco in 1948 this 22’6” day boat is a beautiful example of an earlier pleasure craft, specifically crafted for use on the southern Mornington Peninsula. Vandra was originally commissioned by Leo Phillips (Tim Phillips OAM, Director of WBS father). Leo and Eleanor (Tim’s mother) used the boat for their honeymoon, embarking on a journey around Port Phillip Bay. On the first leg of the journey, they went to Queenscliff, where they spent 10 days with local Couta Boat fishermen. In Eleanor’s words “we fished with them during the day and drank with them afterwards”.

Since her construction in 1948 Vandra has only had three custodians – a testament to her desirability and seaworthiness. Her current owner has held her for 25 years, and she remains in very good condition. Vandra carries a Yanmar 3gm engine and has a beam of 8’8” and draft of 2’6”. A mooring off Erlandsen Avenue is also available for purchase.

*Not to be confused with the second Vandra. This Vandra is the first boat commissioned by Leo Phillips. In 1956 he commissioned the second Vandra to be built by Alec, which is slightly longer in length and also for sale here.
