Role: Boatyard Labourer 

Position Description
We are seeking a passionate labourer adept at boat maintenance in both timber and fibreglass materials. The candidate should have the ability to slip boats, use the travel lift & forklift for manoeuvring boats, as well as basic varnishing, painting, antifouling, and finishing skills. The candidate will be tasked with making basic repairs in wooden and fibreglass boats. Those with a natural interest and enthusiasm for boats and nautical culture will be prioritized.
  • The ability to work independently and problem solve
  • Safely use power tools
  • Forklift and travel lift certificates
  • Experience in making simple repairs with wood and fibreglass
  • Interest in sailing, boats and nautical culture



Role: Apprentice Sailmaker 

Position Description Candidates will have the opportunity to learn from our in-house sailmaker about all aspects of sail design, construction, maintenance, and repair. This position will suit someone who enjoys practical challenges, is immaculate in their attention to detail and is eager to innovate in this expansive new role at The Wooden Boatshop. Ideally, we are seeking an individual with previous experience in a marine trimming role such as a 3rd year apprentice or a Certificate III in automotive and marine trimming technology. 
  • Yacht sail design, construction, and repair
  • Boat covers and upholstery design

Role: Apprentice Boatbuilder

Position Description
We invite expressions of interest by those seeking to undertake a boatbuilding apprenticeship. Candidates must possess an enduring passion and curiosity for wooden craftmanship and traditional wooden boats, as well as a desire to learn and grow as part of a team. Boatbuilding often becomes a lifelong pursuit; we are looking for individuals who will take pride in their work and strive toward reaching excellence in the art of boatbuilding.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to think laterally 
  • Excellent problem-solving ability
  • A strong work ethic and passion for boating and community
  • Ability to work under guidance within a teaching context
  • Understanding of materials and woodworking prowess  
  • Scope to understand boat design and history of seafaring

Role: Apprentice Marine Mechanic 

Position Description
We require an apprentice marine mechanic to work closely with our in-house mechanic in servicing a large fleet of diesel engines both in our yard and offsite on moorings and marinas. The individual must be enthusiastic, reliable, punctual, and eager to expand their knowledge and skillset.
  • Diagnosing and repairing 12-volt electrical systems
  • Repair, service and maintenance of petrol and diesel engines
  • Work with various marine propulsion systems
  • Car and boat licence preferred or willing to obtain
  • Neat and tidy in all aspects of work
  • A strong commitment to quality work
  • Understanding of Yanmar range
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate
  • Enthusiasm for engines



Role: Electrician

Position Description
We’re on the lookout for a talented electrician to assist in wiring and installing electronic equipment and devices on our wooden boat range. The candidate should have a proven history of working in the industry, experience in wiring and installing complex systems, and importantly the ability to work within a team of highly skilled craftsmen. The candidate will work alongside our boat designers, marine mechanics and boatbuilders to problem solve, design, and implement sophisticated and contemporary electronic systems. The work will take place at our headquarters in Sorrento.

Role: Sheet Metal Fabricator

Position Description
We are looking for a sheet metal fabricator who holds a Certificate III in Metal Trade. Ideally the candidate will be looking to gain more experience in the industry and will be an enthusiastic individual who is excited to become a valued member of a large and diverse workforce.
  • Operate CNC machinery
  • Sheet metal fabrication and use of tooling such as lathe
  • An eye for detail and ability to collaborate within a skilled team
  • Ability to uphold the highest standard of safety within the engineering workshop
