Role: Sheet Metal Fabricator / Fitter & Turner / Welder
Position DescriptionWe are seeking a qualified Sheet Metal Fabricator with a Certificate III in Metal Trade to join our team. This role is ideal for someone eager to expand their experience in the industry and contribute as an enthusiastic and valued member of a large, diverse workforce.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate CNC machinery with precision
- Carry out sheet metal fabrication using a variety of tools, including lathes
- Read and interpret technical drawings to support accurate manufacturing
- Maintain a strong attention to detail and work effectively as part of a skilled team
- Consistently uphold the highest safety standards in the engineering workshop
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven experience in electrical work, including both low- and high-voltage systems
- Sound knowledge of lithium battery systems
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A passion for craftsmanship and marine environments—especially wooden boats
- A desire to learn, grow, and take pride in excellence
Apprenticeship Opportunities
The Wooden Boatshop is proud to be an accredited training facility for marine trades. We are now inviting expressions of interest for apprenticeships in the following areas.Position Descriptions
Boatbuilding – Learn traditional and modern techniques of wooden boat construction and restoration.
Electrical Systems Technician – Hands-on training in marine wiring, installation, and diagnostics.
Diesel Mechanic – Gain experience in servicing and maintaining marine diesel engines and propulsion systems.
About ApprenticeshipsApprentices combine formal study (usually one day per week at TAFE) with practical experience in our yard, working on both new builds and restorations. You’ll receive direct mentorship while contributing to the construction and care of classic wooden boats.
