Solace

Details
Launched in 1936 Solace is a 36ft carvel-planked, canoe-stern ketch designed by W. Bailey of Sydney and built by R.T. Searles in Port Adelaide. Constructed of Jarrah with Queensland Hoop Pine topsides and an Oregon masts, she remains a fine example of Australia’s early yachtbuilding heritage. Her Baltic Pine deck is epoxy-sheathed, with bronze and stainless fittings throughout. Notably, Solace has circumnavigated Australia, proving her seaworthiness and offshore capability.
A Yanmar 4JH4S 70hp diesel (installed 2009) gives her an easy 6-knot cruising speed, while her lead keel and 14-ton displacement provide security offshore. Below deck, the saloon offers three berths and the forecabin two bunks, with a marine toilet, Broadwater LPG stove, refrigeration and stainless sink.
She carries a comprehensive sail wardrobe including mainsail, mizzen, furling genoa, spinnaker and heavy-duty inner jib, on stainless rigging with Arco self-tailing winches. Equipment includes a tender with Yamaha outboard, Muir anchor winch, Pacific liferaft, EPIRB, solar and battery systems, plus modern navigation with Raymarine chartplotter, Furuno GPS, Simrad autopilot and Fleming self-steering.
A capable and characterful classic, Solace is ready for extended cruising.
