Hettie

Details

At 24 feet Hettie is an ideal classic pocket cruiser for trips around Port Phillip and Westernport bays as well as providing an interesting blend of intriguing history, sea worthiness and opportunities to sail in SSCBC and Classic Yacht Association races.

Originally commissioned for one of Australia’s first mining magnates and innovative engineers, Sir Walter Bassett, Hettie was one of the first Bermudan rigged boats on Port Phillip and was maintained ready for use by Bassett’s boatman Leo Hibbert who was gifted Hettie on Bassett’s death.  Her sail plan maybe unique among the couta boats, but she is eligible (holds current compensation) for Division 2 SSCBC races and proudly bears the C4 registration.

Fully restored in 2016, Hettie’s roomy cabin and substantial cockpit make her instantly recognisable among the Couta Boat fleet and classics yachts of Port Phillp. Check our the Southern Wooden Boat Sailing (SWS) article here for more info on Hettie.
