Caraid
Details
Built in 1928 by Morrison & Sinclair (Sydney) Caraid is an 8m sloop designed by legendary Scottish boat designer William Fife. Of all the boats that Fife designed, there are about 100 still in existence – mostly in Europe. His designs are renowned for their modernity, their striking lines, and their beauty & grace. Caraid is no exception. She has been built with full length NZ Kauri boards. She carries an as-new Burmese Teak deck. Her owner of close to 40 years has cared for her meticulously after he purchased her and commenced a restoration.Originally commissioned by the Commodore of Royals in Williamston, Caraid has mostly been owned and sailed on Port Phillip Bay. She carries a new Beta 50HP engine. Her beam is 11’6” and draft 6’8”. Speaking of Caraid, Tim Phillips OAM remarks “She is the best boat of her type in Australia.”
