Duchess

Details

Built by Alec Lacco at Rosebud between 1952/53 22’8” Duchess was originally a couta fishing boat that worked out of San Remo, at Phillip Island. Originally named Tania, Duchess was renamed in the 70s by Garry Walton, who has served on HMAS Duchess in the Royal Australian Navy.

Eventually Duchess ended up at Sorrento and was an early competitor in the growing Couta Boat fleet that raced out of Portsea. She is a competitive Couta Boat, having won the Portsea Cup in 2021. She comes with a Yanmer 2GM engine, Doyle Fraser sails, a light-weight rudder and cut-down centreplate. In 2022 she was re-painted with two pack paint.
